Former Bayern Captain Likely to Become New Belgium Head Coach
Belgium is changing its head coach after the World Cup. A Dutchman, who once lost a Champions League match in Wals-Siezenheim, is reportedly set to be the new man.
Rudi Garcia is no longer Belgium's head coach after the World Cup.
Now, the successor is reportedly already decided. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Dutchman Mark van Bommel is taking over and will sign until 2028.
The former Bayern captain most recently coached Royal Antwerp between 2022 and 2024, becoming a double winner with the club in the 2022/23 season.
Suffered Defeat Against Salzburg
Before that, he succeeded Oliver Glasner at Wolfsburg in 2021, but his tenure there ended after just 13 games. He suffered a 1-3 defeat in the UEFA Champions League during an away match against FC Salzburg in Wals-Siezenheim at that time.
The former PSV coach also boasts national team experience. In 2014, he was assistant coach of the Dutch U17 team. From 2015 to 2017, he assisted Bert van Marwijk with Saudi Arabia, and in 2018, he served as his assistant for half a year with Australia.
