2026 World Cup: Two Former Salzburg Players in Team of the Tournament
The Goalkeeper of the Tournament is not included in the Team of the Tournament. However, two former Salzburg players are featured.
FIFA has announced its official Team of the Tournament. Unsurprisingly, no Austrian player is included.
The Goalkeeper of the Tournament, Unai Simon (Spain), is not honored here. The spot in goal goes to Vozinha, who impressed for Cape Verde.
Three Spots for Spain and France
Nevertheless, three spots went to the World Champions. Marc Cucurella (LB), Pedro Porro (RB), and Rodi (MF) are named.
Fourth-placed France, with players Dayot Upamecano (CB), Michael Olise (MF), and Kylian Mbappe (ST), features the most players alongside Spain.
From runner-up Argentina, Lisandro Martinez (CB) and Lionel Messi (ST) make it into the lineup. Also included are Jude Bellingham (MF) from England and Norwegian star striker Erling Braut Haaland.
Cubarsi and Yamal Missing
With Upamecano and Haaland, two players with a Salzburg past make it into the squad.
Spain's centre-back Pau Cubarsi, who was named Young Player of the Tournament by FIFA, is notably absent. Rising star Lamine Yamal is also not included.
