Fitz Comeback? Helm Sees Midfield "Decently Set Up"

Head coach Stephan Helm views the midfield line-up positively. "We have many players who can play in these positions. But they fulfill the roles differently."

For instance, Maybach or Kang-hee Lee are "very positionally disciplined holding midfielders".

In contrast, with Fischer, Markovic, or Wustinger, he has player types "who are very active from the number six position." "Saljic is an attacking number ten, but is very precise defensively."

The aforementioned mix in central midfield makes it "exciting" for the coach. "We have a wide variety of player types who can, however, occupy the same position." This allows him to set up differently, depending on what the game demands.

"So, as far as that's concerned, we are quite decently set up," summarizes the 43-year-old.

Helm on the Fitz Rumors

Did Austria really not consider a return of Dominik Fitz for this reason? The MLS player said a few weeks ago: "I would have liked to come back, but I received a rejection."

Helm explains: "I believe that wasn't a concrete topic." However, he only has words of praise for Fitz, who "played an incredible season here a year ago."

"And then, I think, he made a very exciting transfer for him," says the Austria coach, who has not written off his former protégé yet: "His journey isn't over yet. I still believe he can achieve a lot."
