After their World Cup exit in the round of 32, Senegal is parting ways with head coach Pape Thiaw.

On Saturday, the federation (FSF) announced the decision, citing, among other reasons, the elimination against Belgium.

But that's not all. "Following a thorough evaluation of the sporting results and the prospects of the national team, the Executive Committee concluded that initiating this process is necessary in the overriding interest of Senegalese football," the statement reads.

Overhaul Planned – Vieira as Dream Candidate?

Not only is a change on the coaching bench planned. Furthermore, the president was tasked with "taking all necessary measures for a comprehensive reorganization of all national teams." An overhaul is thus on the horizon for Senegalese football.

This could be led by a former world-class player: Patrick Vieira. According to media reports, the Frenchman, who most recently coached Genoa, is the preferred candidate to succeed Thiaw. Vieira won the World Cup with France in 1998.
