Lionel Messi is currently the all-time top goal scorer at World Cups with 21 goals.
Against Switzerland, Argentina's superstar also makes his 32nd World Cup appearance, further extending his record.
Against the Swiss, the 39-year-old also set a unique record. Messi is the first player to have 15 appearances in the knockout phase of a World Cup. He surpasses Miroslav Klose, who recorded 14 matches.
Furthermore, with his assist for the 1-0 goal against Switzerland, Messi now has ten World Cup assists. Notably: Each of his ten assists went to a different teammate.
