Shortly after Portugal's round of 16 exit at the 2026 World Cup against Spain, national coach Roberto Martinez announced his resignation.

In the future, Jorge Jesus will manage the national team, including Cristiano Ronaldo & Co., who has not yet officially retired.

Roberto Martínez could also soon be back on the sidelines. Only a short time after his resignation, the Belgian is already being linked with a new coaching position.

According to media reports, the 52-year-old is considered a leading candidate for the vacant position of Scotland's national coach.

Could Lead Scotland in Home Euros

Martínez could thus take over a World Cup participant who also fell short of their own expectations at the finals and were eliminated in the group stage.

Scottish national coach Steve Clarke subsequently stepped down from his position.

With Scotland, Martínez could target the 2028 home European Championship. The "Tartan Army," along with England, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland, are co-hosts of the tournament.

Subsequently, the Belgian could lead the Scots through qualification for the 2030 World Cup.
