After a disappointing World Cup for two-time world champion Uruguay, the nation has reportedly found a new coach.

According to multiple media reports, Diego Forlán could take over the position in his home country. Initially, the former professional from Atletico Madrid and Manchester United is set to be on the sidelines until March 2027.

He will also coach the U-20 team. Subsequently, it will be decided whether the ex-striker will remain coach beyond this period.

Forlán Led Uruguay to 2010 World Cup Semifinals

The 47-year-old led Uruguay to the semifinals at the 2010 World Cup. In total, he made 112 appearances for the national team, scoring 36 goals.

He is taking over the position from Marcelo Bielsa, who is stepping down from the role after the team was eliminated in the World Cup group stage without a win.
