Second success story today from women's football!

Following Wiener Austria, the women of SKN St. Pölten also prevailed in the first match of the mini-tournament in the NV Arena in the second round of the UEFA Women's Champions League. The Lower Austrians won 4:3 (3:1) against BSC Young Boys.

Lightning Start for the Lower Austrians

The record champions got off to a dream start. After just seven minutes, Fanni Vago put her team ahead from a penalty.

Just 15 minutes later, the ball found the back of the Swiss net again. This time it was Victoria Laino who scored for the "She-Wolves".

The Lower Austrians dictated the game and repeatedly appeared dangerously in front of the opponents' goal, while the visitors struggled greatly against the Austrian attack. Alma Aagaard broke through after 39 minutes to extend the lead to 3:0.

Swiss Women Launch Comeback

Shortly before half-time, the Swiss women were able to make their mark. Laura Frey scored to make it 3:1 at the break.

In the second half, the pace of play initially slowed down. The visitors found their rhythm better and celebrated a consolation goal through Maja Jelcic. The St. Pölten women didn't let that stand, though. Magdalena Rukavina restored the lead (63rd minute).

It got exciting again in the final minutes. Maja Jelcic converted her brace to make it 3:4. No further goals were scored, meaning the Austrians celebrated their opening international victory.

Sporting Lisbon awaits in the final on Saturday. The winner of this format will advance to the third and final qualification round.
