Austria and FC Lustenau form new club
The two traditional clubs are joining forces to offer young female footballers a sporting perspective and to further develop girls' and women's football.
SC Austria Lustenau and FC Lustenau are joining forces in girls' football.
Since this season, a joint U16 girls' team has been competing under the name SPG Luschnou in the championship of the Vorarlberg Football Association.
The common goal is to offer girls in Lustenau an attractive long-term sporting perspective and to sustainably develop girls' and women's football in the area.
"Working together across rivalries"
"Both clubs have invested a lot in their youth development in recent years. Now we are pooling our strengths where it makes sense," says Austria board member Patrick Grabher.
"The fact that Austria and FC are fielding a team together also shows that one can work together across club colours and rivalries when it comes to the future of our young female footballers," Grabher explains.
Thomas Sperger from FC Lustenau also sees the cooperation as an important step: "It's about offering girls in Lustenau the best possible conditions and, above all, a long-term perspective. This requires enough players, dedicated coaches, and good structures. Together, we can achieve more here and sustainably develop girls' football in Lustenau. We are delighted to be taking this path together now."
Successful Start to the Season
SPG Luschnou will play in a jersey specially designed for the joint team.
Sporting-wise, the new team has already had a successful start to the season. In their opener, SPG Luschnou celebrated a 4-0 victory against SPG Hochmontafon. In their second league match, they drew 2-2 against FC Höchst.
The cooperation is designed for the long term. "Ultimately, no girl should have to quit football because there is no suitable opportunity in her age group anymore. This is exactly where we want to start together and create structures that will also function in the long term," conclude Grabher and Sperger.
