LASK Women make a statement in Linz Derby
LASK asserted themselves for the second time in the second Linz derby. With a 3-0 home win, the athletes made a statement after the international break.
LASK secured a 3-0 derby victory at the start of the second half of the season in the ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga.
Against FC Blau-Weiß Linz/Kleinmünchen, coach Markus Eitl's team played dominantly from the start. The visitors in blue and white hardly posed any offensive threat throughout the entire match and thus remain at the bottom of the table.
LASK consistently superior
LASK had to wait almost half an hour for the opening goal.
A free-kick from midfield by Jaanika Volkov grew longer and longer, ultimately slipping into the far corner (27'). Although Leonie Schmidle celebrated, it appears no one else touched Volkov's ball.
Two Penalties After the Break
After the break, the hosts had a great chance to seal the preliminary decision. However, Dayna Sunshine Tuppinger shot her penalty over the goal.
A few minutes later, her teammate Evelina Kos did better from the spot. Goalkeeper Julia Forstner opted for the right corner, but Kos slotted the ball into the bottom left for 2-0 (60').
Ella Herbst sealed the score shortly before the end. After a superb solo effort, the 19-year-old put herself in a promising position and shot from distance. Her shot sailed over Forstner and into the net for the 3-0 final score (90+3').
Blau-Weiß still with the Red Lantern
LASK provisionally solidified sixth place in the table, while their city rivals must continue to fight for survival in the league.
