Surprising Choice: Who Replaces Araujo at Barca?
The Catalans' key player is on the verge of a loan move to England. His successor is reportedly already lined up.
FC Barcelona continues to push ahead with squad planning!
With Ronald Araujo (loan to FC Liverpool) and Ferran Torres (transfer to Paris Saint-Germain), two further departures are on the horizon in the current transfer window.
While Araujo's move is close to completion, for Torres there is currently only a verbal agreement between PSG and the player's side.
Youngster to Get His Chance
With Araujo's departure, the Catalans lose an important key player, who, however, mostly had to settle for a substitute role in recent years. His departure will likely be compensated for internally.
As reported by "Sport", homegrown talent Alvaro Cortes is set to move up in the hierarchy. The 21-year-old impressed in pre-season and will likely become the fifth center-back behind Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, Gerard Martin, and Andreas Christensen.
This also pushes potential signings of World Champion Aymeric Laporte (Bilbao) and Vice World Champion Cristian Romero (Tottenham) into the background.
Vacant Striker Position
However, the situation in the center-forward position is different. Should Torres also leave "Blaugrana", Hansi Flick would have lost three potential center-forwards in one transfer window with Robert Lewandowski, Marcus Rashford, and Torres.
Julian Alvarez remains the desired player for the vacant position. However, negotiations with Atletico Madrid are proving almost impossible.
