Lionel Scaloni is likely to remain Argentina's national coach beyond 2026.

According to reports from the Argentine newspaper "La Nacion", the 48-year-old is on the verge of extending his contract, which expires at the end of the year. Only the signature is reportedly still missing.

The new contract is expected to tie the successful coach to the national team until 2028 and include an option for a further two-year extension. This would mean he would manage the team at least at the upcoming Copa America 2028 and possibly also at the 2030 World Cup.

World Coach of the Year 2022

Scaloni took over the Argentine national team in 2018 and shaped what is arguably the most successful era in the history of the "Albiceleste".

His tenure includes the 2022 World Cup title, two Copa America successes, and the 2026 World Cup runner-up finish. In 2022, Scaloni, under whom Argentina averaged 2.45 points, was named FIFA World Coach of the Year.
