Ex-Barca Keeper Finds New Club
The 37-year-old was recently without a club. Now, the 65-cap international goalkeeper signs with a Dutch top-flight club.
Ex-Barca keeper Jesper Cillessen has found a new club.
After his contract expired at NEC Nijmegen, where he was replaced by ÖFB keeper Nikolas Polster, the 37-year-old signs with Dutch top-flight club Go Ahead Eagles. There, he receives a contract until the end of the season.
The 65-cap international goalkeeper for the Netherlands was without a club for several months, and will now serve as a replacement for first-choice goalkeeper Kjetil Haug in Deventer. The club is reacting to the absence of Nick Marsman, their regular number two.
Record Keeper of the Netherlands
Cillessen remains the most expensive Dutch goalkeeper in history to this day. FC Valencia paid a hefty 35 million euros for his transfer in 2019.
Later, the keeper also played for FC Barcelona, for whom he stood between the posts in 32 competitive matches. However, he played most of his games for Ajax Amsterdam (143 appearances).
