"Thank You Football": World and European Champion Ends Career
The Spaniard made history in Spain, England, and Italy. At 39, he's calling time on his career.
Pedro Rodriguez is retiring from professional football.
The 39-year-old Spaniard officially announced this on Wednesday. "I feel it's time. Time to take a step forward and begin a new chapter in my life," the winger's farewell message, published via social media, began.
"I leave with pride, having lived my dream and for all the people who were by my side to make it come true. Thank you football, for making me so happy."
Incredible Career Record
Tenerife-born Pedro made his breakthrough at FC Barcelona, where he played the most competitive matches of his career (321). With the Catalans, he won three UEFA Champions League titles and five league championships, among other accolades.
In the same era, the versatile attacking player also became a World and European Champion with Spain (2010 and 2012). In 2015, he moved to Chelsea FC, where he made 206 appearances and won the Premier League, the Europa League, and the FA Cup.
In September 2020, Pedro embarked on the final international chapter of his career. From Chelsea FC, he moved to AS Roma, leaving a year later for arch-rivals Lazio.
The 65-cap international still made 209 appearances for the "Biancocelesti". His contract in the "Eternal City" expired this past summer transfer window.
