Following the disappointing World Cup, Uruguay has mutually parted ways with coach Marcelo Bielsa. Diego Forlán now takes over as head coach. He will also coach the U-20 team.

The 47-year-old played for clubs such as Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan during his professional career.

Forlán scored 36 goals in 112 international matches for the national team. In 2010, he reached the World Cup semi-finals with Uruguay.
