Mexico Legend Chicharito Finds New Club
The striker played his last professional game in November 2025. Now he returns to the pitch.
Javier "Chicharito" Hernández is surprisingly set to continue his career.
The former Mexican international is moving to Atlético Dallas, becoming the first signing for the new USL Championship franchise.
The 38-year-old thus returns to the football pitch after a lengthy break. Hernández played his last competitive match in November 2025 for his youth club Chivas Guadalajara, which he left last January. Since then, the striker had been without a club.
For the attacker, who played for clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid, this marks the ninth stop in his professional career.
With this move, Hernández also puts an end to speculation about a possible career retirement. Already when he moved to LA Galaxy in 2020, he had described the MLS as the "beginning of retirement."
Dallas Joins the USL Championship
Atlético Dallas will only join the USL Championship in 2027, the second-highest league in US soccer behind the MLS.
Already in February, the club had introduced former LaLiga and Ligue 1 professional Peter Luccin as its first head coach. Hernández, who is Mexico's record goalscorer with 52 goals, is now the first player the club has signed for its inaugural season.
"I believe Dallas deserves a club that reflects the passion for soccer, the diversity, and the future of this city," Hernández said in a statement.
"I want to help build a winning mentality, inspire young players in North Texas, and give fans a team they can believe in from day one. I didn’t come here to wind down my career. I came here to shape the future of soccer in Dallas," he added.
