Mohamed Salah and his new club Trabzonspor succumbed to Ferencvaros Budapest yesterday.

In the Europa League playoff, the Turkish side was eliminated with an aggregate score of 0-5. After the match, coach Fatih Tekke submitted his resignation to the club.

The 48-year-old reportedly asked the board to be relieved of his duties "due to emotional strain," according to "kicker."

Two Red Cards as the Turning Point

The board reportedly rejected this request. Tekke has been in office since March 2025 and finished third last season behind the two powerhouses Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

This year, the new club of former Liverpool players Salah and Fabinho will only play in the Conference League. In the second leg against Hungary's record champions, a red card in the 14th minute against Ruslan Malinovsky set Ferencvaros on the path to victory.

By Salah's substitution in the 64th minute, Ferencvaros had scored two more goals, and Sidney Lopes Cabral was also sent off with a red card.

Ferencvaros could therefore face Salzburg and Sturm in the Europa League. The draw – just like the one for the Conference League – is on Friday lunchtime.
