Scored at the World Cup: Former ÖFB youngster moves to Turkey
The Wels-born player was on the verge of a transfer to Celtic. However, the 21-year-old has now signed with the Süper Lig promoted side.
Former LASK and Rapid youth player Ermin Mahmic is leaving Czech first-division club Slovan Liberec and signing in Turkey.
The 21-year-old is signing with Süper Lig promoted side Corum FK for three years, including an option for a further year. The transfer fee is reportedly five million euros.
Impressive spell in Czechia
Mahmic played in the LASK youth academy and subsequently up to U18 level at the Rapid Academy. From second-division club SV Lafnitz, he moved on to Slovan Liberec in Czechia.
There, the midfielder showed good performances last season (13 goal contributions in 31 competitive matches). In the summer, he went with Bosnia and Herzegovina to the World Cup, where he scored against Switzerland and Qatar respectively.
In March, the Wels-born player still featured for Austria's U21 national team. Shortly thereafter, he switched federations.
Mahmic meets another former Rapid player
A move to Celtic had been on the cards for Mahmic until recently. According to media reports, a contract signing was imminent.
Now he is taking the step to Turkey. The Vienna-born Ahmed Ildiz is under contract at Corum. The midfielder also received his training in the Rapid youth setup and made more than 40 appearances for the Hütteldorfer's second team.
Corum secured a 2-2 draw against Galatasaray in their Süper Lig opener. Their second match against Kasimpasa ended in a 0-1 defeat.
