Fenerbahçe introduces ex-international as new coach
Just over a week after Ismail Kartal's departure, the Turkish top club has found a new head coach. He comes from a league rival.
On October 27, Ismail Kartal announced his resignation as head coach of Fenerbahçe Istanbul, and now the Turkish top club has found a successor.
As the club officially announced on Wednesday, Emre Belözoğlu will take over the position at the Süper Lig's sixth-placed team. The club had recently been interimly managed by Dirk Kuyt.
Previously with League Rivals
Belözoğlu, who also played for Fener as a player, moves from league rivals Kasımpaşa to Fenerbahçe. His previous team is surprisingly in fifth place after a strong start to the season, ahead of Fener.
As a professional, Belözoğlu made 227 appearances for Fenerbahçe and played 153 times for arch-rival Galatasaray. The 101-cap Turkish international also played for clubs including Inter Milan, Atlético Madrid, and Newcastle United, ending his career in 2020.
