Nikolas Polster benefits from injury, but...
The Austrian international is substituted in during the league match against SC Cambuur-Leeuwar, but concedes two goals.
Austrian international Nikolas Polster will likely represent NEC Nijmegen as the first-choice goalkeeper in the coming weeks.
Originally, the 24-year-old, who arrived from Wolfsberger AC in the summer for 1.15 million euros, was only planned as a backup goalkeeper behind Gonzalo Crettaz – however, the Spaniard is likely to be sidelined for some time due to an injury.
Also on Saturday, on the 6th matchday of the Dutch Eredivisie, Crettaz was in the starting eleven for the away game against SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden, but an unspecified injury forced Nijmegen coach Dick Schreuder to take the injured Crettaz off at halftime.
Polster was substituted in with the score at 1-0 for SC Cambuur, but he didn't make a big difference – quite the opposite. After two more conceded goals, NEC Nijmegen ultimately lost 0-3.
Polster in goal against Juventus
It was the third defeat of the current Eredivisie season. With seven points, Nijmegen is currently only in tenth place.
Furthermore, NEC Nijmegen remained without scoring a goal for the first time in 29 games, thus ending their club record streak.
Polster, however, can expect more appearances in the coming weeks.
It had already been clear for some time that the Austrian would be in goal next Thursday in the Europa League match against Juventus Turin (Sept 17 – in the LIVE ticker), as Crettaz has to serve a red card suspension in the European competition anyway.
