Ex-Bayern keeper set for Belgium move
After his contract expired in Italy, the 37-year-old has reportedly found a new club. He is moving to Belgium.
After three years, long-serving Swiss international goalkeeper Yann Sommer left Italian top club Inter Milan at the end of June following the expiry of his contract.
A few weeks after his departure from the Nerazzurri, the 37-year-old appears to have found a new club.
The Swiss goalkeeper is reportedly on the verge of a move to Belgian champions Club Brugge. Transfer experts Sacha Tavolieri and Fabrizio Romano consistently report this. Accordingly, the deal could be concluded within the next 48 to 72 hours.
Ajax also showed interest
The 37-year-old is expected to sign a short-term contract with the Belgian Champions League participant. An oral agreement has already been reached, with only final formalities reportedly outstanding.
According to Romano, Sommer had several offers. An option from Spain, as well as Ajax Amsterdam, had also reportedly shown interest.
Ultimately, Brugge was able to convince the experienced keeper to join them.
Successor to Simon Mignolet
At the Belgian champions, Sommer is expected to fill the void left by Simon Mignolet's retirement and strengthen the goalkeeping team alongside Nordin Jackers and youth keeper Axl De Corte.
Sommer was under contract with Inter Milan until the end of June. With Inter, he became Italian champion twice and reached the Champions League final in 2025.
Previously, the 94-cap Swiss international gained nine years of Bundesliga experience with Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Bayern.
