All signs pointed to a move to Newcastle United. Now the Europa League winner has reportedly stepped in.
Johan Manzambi caused a stir both in the past season for SC Freiburg and at the ongoing World Cup with Switzerland.
His surge in form did not go unnoticed abroad. According to consistent media reports, a transfer to Newcastle United was said to be close to completion (Read more here >>>).
Aston Villa Beats Newcastle to the Punch
As "Sky" now reports, Aston Villa has reportedly hijacked the deal at the last moment. The package for Manzambi, including potential bonuses, is said to be around 70 million euros.
The agreement with Newcastle was reportedly around 60 million euros. However, the deal never materialised because Manzambi did not give his final commitment. He is said to have given this instead to the Europa League winner.
The 20-year-old attacking player is expected to sign a long-term contract with the "Villains".
