ÖFB Goalkeeper signs in Leipzig
The 26-year-old Tyrolean played in the Netherlands until a few months ago - now he's found a club in the German Regionalliga Nordost.
A new challenge for Jonas Wendlinger.
As announced on Friday, the 26-year-old Austrian has signed a contract with Lok Leipzig in the German Regionalliga Nordost until 2027.
Wendlinger is set to replace first-choice goalkeeper Andreas Naumann, who is out for an extended period due to injury. The Tyrolean managed to impress club officials in Leipzig during a trial.
"I'm very happy that it worked out and that I'm here now. I've already gotten to know the team well over the last few days and have been welcomed incredibly well. Now I'm looking forward to helping the team as quickly as possible," Wendlinger is quoted by the club.
One Game in the Eredivisie
Wendlinger looks back on his training at AKA Tirol, from where the 1.92-meter tall goalkeeper moved to 1. FC Nürnberg in 2016, where he made a few appearances for the second team.
From 2021 to 2024, he played for SV Ried. He made six Bundesliga appearances for the Innviertler club. For the past two years, he was under contract with Almere City in the Netherlands, where he even featured once in the Eredivisie.
He had been without a club since July.
