First Bundesliga Win for Muslic! Wöber Scores for Schalke for the First Time

Schalke 04 are truly back in the German Bundesliga after last week's draw against Bayern Munich.

On Matchday 3, Miron Muslic and Schalke won 3:1 away at Union Berlin. In the first half, the "Royal Blues" were the better team, but in the final stages, they faced a nervous finish.

Schalke now have four points. Next week, they will face promoted side Elversberg in a clash of newcomers.

Of All People, Ex-Union Player Scores

Of all people, Robin Gosens, who spent two years with the "Iron Ones," put Schalke in front with a volley (25'). Schalke stepped up and could have been even further ahead by halftime.

Shortly after the break, ex-LASK attacker Marin Ljubicic came on for Union and had to watch Muslic's team combine beautifully going forward. Following an assist from ÖFB striker Junior Adamu, Adil Aouchiche scored to make it 2:0 (46').

Union Stronger in Second Half

Union Berlin subsequently stepped on the gas and created some good chances. However, Loris Karius was on hand for the opportunities from Schäfer, Rothe, and Skarke.

Adamu should have made it 3:0 in the 78th minute but failed against Union goalkeeper Rönnow. Shortly after, he was replaced by Edin Dzeko. In the same substitution window, ÖFB defender Wöber was brought on for Gosens.

Exciting Final Stages

In the final minutes, things really heated up: Ljubicic only hit the post (87'), and in stoppage time, the Berliners found new hope after Skarke's consolation goal (90'+6).

Shortly after, Karius prevented the equalizer: Querfeld's header flick-on landed with Skov, who was tackled by Wöber. However, the rebound fell to Skarke, who shot straight at Karius from an excellent position (90'+8).

At the other end, Wöber sealed the win: Schalke executed a counter-attack perfectly through Bachmann and Hwang, with the South Korean optimally setting up his former Salzburg teammate – Wöber only had to tap in from nine meters (90'+13).

ÖFB Midfielder Injured

For Union Berlin, ÖFB defender Leopold Querfeld played the full match. For Schalke, Dejan Ljubicic had to be substituted after 21 minutes due to injury.

Things won't get any easier for the Berliners – next Friday they face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
