Ex-Rangnick Assistant Succeeds Historic Head Coach
Ingolstadt has a new head coach, and an ÖFB international also plays there.
German third-tier club FC Ingolstadt, featuring ÖFB international Benjamin Kanuric, has appointed a new head coach.
"With Achim Beierlorzer, we have managed to sign a coach whose playing philosophy aligns very well with our vision of active, high-intensity football," said managing director Harald Gärtner.
The new man succeeds the dismissed Sabrina Wittmann. In 2024, the 35-year-old became the first and only woman to make the leap as a permanent head coach in men's professional football.
She successfully remained in office for a considerable time, overseeing 97 matches (or even 101 including her interim spell).
Assistant to Rangnick and Marsch
Her successor possesses experience at the highest level. In February 2015, Beierlorzer became interim coach at RB Leipzig, and in the following season, he served as assistant coach to Ralf Rangnick there.
He later coached Jahn Regensburg in the 2. Bundesliga. In the Bundesliga, he managed Köln and Mainz. In autumn 2021, he was again an assistant coach at Leipzig under Jesse Marsch, and even took charge as interim coach for one match. Most recently, he served on the board of Jahn Regensburg until October 2025.
