Werder Bremen terminates contract with attacking flop
The Bundesliga club parts ways with a striker. At the Weser, the 29-year-old failed to impress in 22 competitive matches.
Werder Bremen has parted ways with forward Dawid Kownacki with immediate effect.
As the Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday, the contract with the Pole was terminated prematurely. This brings the 29-year-old's chapter at the Weser to an end after three disappointing years.
Kownacki moved to Bremen in 2023 after a strong season at Fortuna Düsseldorf, but could never meet expectations there. In 22 competitive matches, the seven-time international neither scored a goal nor provided an assist.

"In recent weeks, we have discussed Dawid's sporting situation and his prospects at Werder together with him. We came to the conclusion that the termination of the contract is the best solution for both sides," explained Werder's Director of Football Clemens Fritz regarding the premature termination of the contract.
In the current season, Kownacki did not feature under head coach Daniel Thioune and also failed to make it into the squad for a single competitive match for the North Germans.
What's next for the 29-year-old is uncertain. Most recently, the striker was linked with a return to Poland.
