FC Schalke 04 made another move on the transfer market on Deadline Day. With Hee-Chan Hwang, the club officials brought a World Cup participant to the Ruhr region.

Schalke signs ex-Salzburg striker >>>

As Sporting Director Frank Baumann confirmed to "Sky", it was a last-minute transfer that truly deserved that description. The signing of the 30-year-old striker was indeed finalized within the last minute of the transfer window.

"When we received confirmation that everything had been uploaded in the DFB system, it was 35 seconds before the transfer deadline," Baumann recounted.

In the Past, Fax Machines; Today, Digital Signatures

The 50-year-old German has experienced several Deadline Days as Sporting Director of Schalke 04 and previously of Werder Bremen, but according to him, this one was "the most exciting transfer on Deadline Day."

The problem: On the other side, there were issues with the digital signature. "What used to be the fax machine is now the digital world with the digital signature," Baumann commented. At one point, there was even concern "that it wouldn't work in time."

In the end, however, the transfer was completed on time. Hwang joins on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the Royal Blues also have a purchase option of three million euros.
