Promoted Elversberg snatch draw at Schalke

In Edin Dzeko's first start in nearly 16 years, both teams displayed tactical discipline in the first half. While Schalke allowed the promoted side to build up play, the "Knappen" were the more dangerous team.
Kristof Keeps a Clean Sheet
Austrian legionnaire Nicolas Kristof was able to save a botched clearance attempt by Lukas Pinckert (21st minute), and shortly before the half-time whistle, the Elversberg captain made a crucial clearance against Dzeko (45th minute).
After the break, both teams stepped up a gear, but the hosts had the better chances: Nikola Katic missed a huge opportunity from close range (54th minute), and ten minutes later, Kristof was on hand to save a volley from Junior Dina Ebimbe.
In the final phase, both teams once again threatened the goal: Katic headed over the bar from a free-kick from midfield (80th minute), and Lukas Petkov missed a clear chance for a lucky punch from inside the six-yard box shortly before the end (86th minute).
