SV Werder Bremen (with Marco Friedl and Marco Grüll) experiences an incredibly poor start to the new Bundesliga season.

In the first round, the Thioune-eleven loses 1:4 to SC Freiburg. Suzuki scores a hat-trick for SCF, Philipp Lienhart is in the starting lineup alongside Grüll (one assist) and Friedl. New signing Alexander Schlager remains on the bench for 90 minutes.

Initially, Bremen can even keep pace with Freiburg. After 20 minutes, however, Freiburg increases the pressure and makes it 1:0 in the 29th minute with a Suzuki header from a corner. Matanovic (45.) extends the lead to 2:0 with a powerful shot from 25 meters.

Quickfire double seals Werder's fate

Within eight minutes, head coach Schuster's team puts the game beyond doubt: Suzuki becomes a double scorer after a Scherhant cross (48.).

Only a short time later, the Japanese even scores his third goal after an assist from Matanovic.

Grüll assist merely cosmetic

At least the visitors manage a consolation goal. New signing Stalmach scores on his Bundesliga debut. The Pole heads in from a corner by ÖFB legionnaire Grüll for the final score.
