Newcastle Player on Jaissle: "He Didn't Even Say Hello"
The Newcastle United player reports a strange start but raves about his new coach.
Matthias Jaissle recently took office at Newcastle United.
Together with his Tyrolean assistant Alexander Hauser, the German remains undefeated.
After two wins and two draws in the Premier League, they overcame the Cup hurdle of Millwall away with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday.
Centre-forward Yoane Wissa (30) was allowed to lead Newcastle United onto the pitch one year after his arrival.
Comparison with England Striker
The Congo international now speaks about his new coach. "It's really strange because when I first met him, I was very confident in dealing with him," Wissa is quoted by "Sky Sports".
However, Jaissle's greeting was quite unusual. "He didn't even say 'hello' to me! He asked: 'Do we have Ivan?' – that's how it started," the striker recounts.
The former Salzburg coach was referring to Ivan Toney; the Englishman was a key player under him at Al Ahli and was part of the World Cup squad this summer.
Even though the first sentence was strange, the 30-year-old raves about Jaissle.
A Bet with Jaissle
"When you talk to him, he gives me a lot of confidence – whether it's regarding the past, what he's looking forward to, or what he expects from me, especially my role in the team. He has my back because he wants me to take on a leadership role and give my all for him," says Wissa.
Jaissle even challenged his new protégé. "Of course, I always have a goal. I even have a bet going with the coach. But that remains private," the striker reveals.
