Second-longest serving PL manager: Staying put instead of Man United?
Aston Villa want to tie Unai Emery down to a long-term deal and prevent a potential move to Manchester United. Talks are ongoing.
Aston Villa are reportedly working on an early contract extension for manager Unai Emery.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League club's hierarchy is already in advanced talks with the Spaniard. Negotiations took place on Wednesday, and a concrete offer is on the table.
As a result, Emery is set to receive a longer-term deal that also includes a pay rise. His current contract runs until 2029.
No United move?
With the extension, Aston Villa aim to prevent a potential move by the 55-year-old to Manchester United.
The club's management continues to view Emery as the ideal manager for the present and the future.
Behind Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, Emery is currently the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League. He has been in charge at the Birmingham club since 2022.
