Man City Case: Pochettino Speaks Out - "Time of Deception"

The Manchester City case is likely to continue to occupy English football for a long time to come!

It is not yet clear what scale or what penalties will even be imposed on the "Citizens". The only thing that seems certain is that the club was found guilty in 114 out of 115 cases of having violated the Premier League's financial rules.

The club itself continues to deny all allegations.

Pochettino Comments

While the league continues to remain silent, more and more clubs and experts are publicly commenting on the issue.

Among them is now Mauricio Pochettino, the current head coach of the USA national team and a long-time Premier League coach, speaking at a press conference before the international match between the USA and Chile.

"We experienced a time when there was no sporting justice. How can all that has been damaged by this be repaired? If it is true that 114 rules were violated, then we have lived through a time of deception. No punishment, however harsh, can undo what has happened," the Argentinian declared in a scathing attack.

With the Spurs from 2014 to 2019

The 54-year-old is in any case "deeply saddened": "In the end, you find yourself in a situation where everything that was celebrated was not real at all. What seemed good, perhaps wasn't so good after all. And what didn't look good, perhaps was good after all."

Pochettino himself was manager of Tottenham Hotspur from 2014 to 2019 and briefly with Chelsea in 2023.

Specifically, the Man City case concerns possible infringements from the period 2009 to 2018, in which the club allegedly made false statements about its finances and artificially inflated sponsorship revenues in order to circumvent the league's regulations.

A point that Pochettino does not understand at all: "Where were the controls? That's what bothers me the most."
