City Financial Scandal: Insider Heavily Implicates Infantino
The financial scandal surrounding Manchester City continues to widen. Gianni Infantino, as UEFA General Secretary, is alleged to have covered up the violations.
Ever since it became public that Manchester City violated Financial Fair Play in 115 cases, one has been waiting in vain for a statement from UEFA.
As a spokesperson announced on Thursday, the continental association currently does not wish to comment. The reason for this could also be the accusations against former General Secretary and current FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Infantino Allegedly "Outmaneuvered the Investigators"
Rui Pinto, the founder of "Football Leaks," whose 2018 revelations form the basis of the investigations against Manchester City, severely criticized Infantino.
"Already in 2014, there was a man who was aware of the irregularities surrounding Manchester City. The notorious Gianni Infantino, then UEFA General Secretary, abused his authority, shared confidential documents, and – in short – outmaneuvered the investigators," Pinto wrote on "X".
Pinto Takes Clear Stance Against Infantino
The current FIFA President is alleged to have done everything in his power "to ensure that both Manchester City and PSG would only be fined, thereby escaping further investigations that could have led to an exclusion from the Champions League."
FIFA has also not yet responded to the allegations.
Regarding his re-candidacy as FIFA President, Pinto unequivocally stated that Infantino should have "no place in the future of the game" also due to his alleged role in this matter.
The presumption of innocence applies.
