Financial Scandal: City's Main Sponsor Considers Legal Action
The airline feels implicated by current reports. Legal steps are being considered to protect its own interests.
The financial scandal surrounding Manchester City continues to cause a stir.
After the club was found guilty in 115 cases, main sponsor Etihad Airways is now also getting involved. According to various media reports, the airline feels implicated by the reasoning of the verdict, which suggests that the main sponsor allegedly had knowledge of the club's actions. The company claims it was not even questioned about the matter.
The airline denies any connection to the alleged misconduct. It is stated that the Premier League must take responsibility for the consequences of its communication, otherwise legal action will be initiated. They will legally examine what remedies are available to protect their own interests.
Etihad Wants to Remain Sponsor
Etihad has been the main sponsor of the "Cityzens" since 2009. Etihad Airways intends to continue the partnership despite the guilty verdict. In addition to the jerseys, the stadium also bears the airline's name.
The commission's findings fundamentally relate to the years 2009 to 2018. This period also includes three English championships won by the "Cityzens".
Among other things, the club is accused of false statements regarding financial and sponsorship revenues, as well as incomplete information about coach and player salaries.
