Former Sturm goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is leaving English Championship side AFC Wrexham.

The Nigerian is moving on loan within the English Championship to Charlton Athletic, where he will compete with former Premier League goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski for a spot between the posts. Both clubs announced this on Thursday.

The two-time Nigeria international, who stood between the posts for SK Sturm in the second half of the 2022/23 season, had to leave the Welsh club to have prospects of playing time in the upcoming season.

Curiously: Last season, Okonkwo, who once achieved promotion to the Championship with Wrexham, was still between the posts for the club and made 44 competitive appearances.

Promotion hero now just a reservist

However, the former promotion hero has since been demoted to third choice behind Welsh national goalkeeper Danny Ward and new signing Anthony Patterson. Now he makes the move to Charlton, who were still in a relegation battle last season.

"I want to play another season here where I continue to develop and improve well," Okonkwo is quoted as saying on Charlton Athletic's website.
