Birmingham City has started the new Championship season with a draw.

The "Blues" secured a 0-0 draw at Sheffield United. In a match largely devoid of clear scoring opportunities, the visitors were the slightly better team but couldn't convert their slight superiority into goals.

Captain Christoph Klarer, who played every single minute for Birmingham in central defence last season, with the exception of three matches around New Year's, and was voted the club's Player of the Season, played the full match.

Schmid Loses with Portsmouth Against QPR

The first matchday went less well for Nicolas Schmid: The Upper Austrian, who has been under contract with Portsmouth FC for two years, and his team suffered a clear 1-3 defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

"Pompey" even started the match brilliantly, with Terry Devlin putting the hosts ahead in the 15th minute. However, the game then turned.

Ilias Chair with a brace (33', 45'+2) and Koki Saito (40') turned the game around before half-time. Despite good chances and a dominant second half, Portsmouth could not make the game exciting again.
