Harsh Criticism After Polster's Blunder: "I would head the ball away"
The Austrian goalkeeper was also in his coach's firing line after his two mistakes against Juve.
Nikolas Polster's debut in the UEFA Europa League was anything but ideal.
With his new club NEC Nijmegen, the Austrian had to pick the ball out of his net five times against Juventus Turin (To the match report>>>).
In the 0-5 defeat, the ex-WAC keeper was also directly involved in two goals conceded due to blunders.
"With all due respect..."
For both the first and the last goal conceded, Polster comes out of his box after a long ball and tries to punch the ball away. Both times he fails to connect with the ball, allowing Nicolas Gonzalez and Randal Kolo Muani to simply tap it into an empty net.
NEC coach Dick Schreuder commented critically about his goalkeeper after the match. "With all due respect, but I would head the ball away. I would see it coming," said Schreuder.
"We are not good enough"
In general, he expressed great dissatisfaction with his defense's performance: "We are not there yet. We still need a lot more time. In defense, we simply don't have things under control yet."
For Schreuder, the match was a lesson from a top team: "That was a lesson at the highest level. We are clearly not good enough. I didn't expect that."
