Veratschnig on Salzburg: "The absolutely right step"

Comeback in the ÖFB team, captain at FC Salzburg, and victory in the European Cup opener!

For Nikolas Veratschnig, the current week is one of the best in his still young career. In his "Bulls'" 1-0 away win against Levski Sofia, the full-back once again delivered a flawless performance.

The Right Step

Since his summer move from Mainz to Salzburg, the 23-year-old has featured in all 13 competitive matches. He has scored two goals and provided two assists.

Veratschnig describes his return to Austria as the "absolutely right step": "My intention was to develop further. Even if it was perhaps a step back in terms of the league, I knew that I could develop here."

Despite the clear upward trend, the Carinthian remains humble: "There's still a long way to go to the top, but I'm in good form. I still have some weaknesses I need to work on. But we have a good coaching staff for that. From here, it can only go up."

Will the ÖFB Debut Happen Now?

His performances for the Mozartstadt team have also brought him back into the ÖFB team. Head coach Ralf Rangnick has nominated the right-back for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.

Veratschnig now hopes for appearances there: "Yes, it's my biggest wish. Ultimately, the coach decides. If it happens, I'll be delighted. If not, then I know I have to keep working."

The 23-year-old was most recently in the squad in June 2025, but has not yet made his debut for Austria.
