A perfect start for FC Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League!

Salzburg secured a 1-0 away win against Levski Sofia on the first matchday. Once again, Haris Tabakovic was the match-winner. For the Bosnian international striker, it is already his tenth goal of the season.

Head coach Danny Röhl and his "Bulls" thus remain unbeaten in their 13th competitive match of the young season. This means the new coach surpasses Marco Rose and Jesse Marsch, who remained unbeaten in their first 12 games. Matthias Jaissle holds the record with 21 matches.

Even Opening Phase - Tabakovic Strikes

Both teams showed courage in attack from the first minute. The first good opportunity belonged to the hosts, but Armstrong Oko-Flex shot over the bar after a corner (10').

After that, Salzburg grew stronger and had a double chance through Yorbe Vertessen (22') and Haris Tabakovic (23'). While Vertessen only hit the side netting, Tabakovic was denied by the keeper.

Shortly before halftime, however, the "Bulls" struck. After a fine chip from Bartosz Mazurek, Dominik Schmid laid it across, and Tabakovic finished like a true striker to make it 1-0 for FC Salzburg (39').

Thus, in an even first half, the teams went into the changing rooms with a narrow lead for Salzburg.

Salzburg Keeps a Clean Sheet

The second half also saw an open contest. Although Salzburg was closer to a second goal, the hosts still remained dangerous.

After an hour, Levski grew more dangerous and pressed for an equalizer. However, their efforts usually ended with the Salzburg defense or the in-form new ÖFB goalie Christian Zawieschitzky.

In the end, neither team managed to score again, and so FC Salzburg celebrated their opening victory. On Sunday, the Europa League participants will face each other in the league when Sturm visits Salzburg.
