Another Resignation: Ghana Head Coach Terminates Contract
The 73-year-old had only returned as head coach after the 2026 World Cup. Now he is leaving the association again.
Barely a month after his comeback as Ghana's head coach, the association and Carlos Queiroz mutually parted ways again on Thursday.
In between, Ghana suffered defeats against Ivory Coast (0:2) and Gambia (2:4) in Africa Cup qualification.
The 73-year-old Portuguese had actually announced his resignation in July after being eliminated in the World Cup Round of 16 against England, but was brought back by Ghana's association on September 3.
Defeat against Austria
Only in March of this year, Ghana played at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna. In the international match, they suffered a 1:5 thrashing against the ÖFB team. The coach for the Africans at the time was Otto Addo, who was dismissed a few days later after a defeat against Germany.
In his long coaching career, Queiroz was, among others, national coach for Qatar, Egypt, Colombia, and Iran. From 2003-2004, he also coached Real Madrid in 59 matches before working for four years as assistant coach under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
