Stöger on LASK: "Didn't know if it wouldn't turn into eight"
Peter Stöger already feared a real debacle during LASK-Liverpool. According to him, this is what the Linzers lacked:
No sensation in Linz!
LASK was defeated by Liverpool FC on Wednesday evening in the second round of the UEFA Champions League league phase with a score of 6:3 (Match report >>>).
After a first half characterized by being overwhelmed, Kühbauer's team showed character and made a small statement against the Premier League giant with three goals within 15 minutes.
Too lax defensively
The course of the first half had CANAL+ expert Peter Stöger at times fearing a demolition. "I was sitting up in the stands and I thought to myself: 'I don't know if that wouldn't turn into eight [goals].'"
Even more remarkable was LASK's resurgence in the second half: "When you're 0-4 down and then the game ends 3-6... Of course, one can discuss whether Liverpool shifted down a gear. But you have to be active yourself to create chances."
However, in terms of defensive play, LASK at times acted too carelessly in the duel with the "Reds". "These little things, where you want to save yourself some effort, or say 'there are already three defenders there anyway'. That gets punished at this level."
