Shakhtar to play Champions League at Stamford Bridge
Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk must again play their upcoming Champions League season abroad.
Shakhtar Donetsk will play its home matches in the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League season at Stamford Bridge. The Ukrainian champions officially announced this.
Chelsea FC's home ground offers space for around 40,000 spectators. As the "Blues" are not competing internationally this season, the stadium will be available for Shakhtar's European home matches during the week.
Still No European Cup Matches in Ukraine
As reigning Ukrainian champions, Shakhtar are automatically qualified for the Champions League league phase. However, due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the club's international home matches still cannot be played in their home country.
Shakhtar has already had to relocate in previous seasons. Last season, the Ukrainians played their European Cup home matches in Krakow, Poland, and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League.
Shakhtar Looks Forward to Stamford Bridge
The traditional Ukrainian club expressed its delight at the new home venue.
"Playing our Champions League home matches at Stamford Bridge is a special opportunity for Shakhtar. We are grateful to Chelsea FC for the chance to play our games at this special venue," the club announced.
This means Shakhtar will play its Champions League home matches in London for the first time next season.
