CL Final 2028: Munich submits bid
The city aims to host the Champions League final for the fifth time.
Will the 2028 Champions League final be held in Munich again?
This question arises after the city submitted its bid on Wednesday. Currently, there is no competition. However, a decision by UEFA will not be made until mid-September.
The final was only held at the Allianz Arena in 2025. "Munich showed once again in 2025 that we can host major sporting events at the highest international level. Hosting it again would be a great opportunity to present Munich internationally as an open-minded, sports-enthusiastic, and capable host city," Mayor Dominik Krause is quoted by "Sport1".
Bayern hopes for a successful "Finale dahoam"
The "Finale dahoam" is then scheduled to take place on May 27, 2028. So far, Bayern Munich has not won a title in the city across five hostings. The Germans reached the final once.
In 2012, they had a chance for the title in their own living room, the Allianz Arena, but had to admit defeat against Chelsea in their home stadium. In 1979, 1993, and 1997, the final was held at Munich's Olympiastadion.
This season, the final will take place on June 5, 2027, at the Estadio Metropolitano (Atletico) in Madrid, while in 2029, London with Wembley Stadium and Barcelona with Camp Nou are showing interest.
Additionally, Munich also aims to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040, or 2044.
