Another departure and candidates: GAK still has no new coach
After the Graz-based club announced a press conference before the game against Ried, rumors of a new coach being introduced emerged.
GAK still has no new head coach.
Joachim Standfest remains in office as interim coach and, as previously announced, will be on the sidelines on Friday for SV Ried (from 7:30 PM in the LIVE ticker).
But why is this news? On Wednesday morning, rumors emerged that the Graz city club could already introduce the new head coach. The reason for this was the announcement of a press conference before the match in Ried. Normally, the club does not hold press conferences prior to away games.
Assistant Coach also gone
However, interim sporting director Andreas Lienhart and president Rene Ziesler merely stated at the press conference that the club is still looking for a new head coach. The market is being explored, and the timeframe for the end of the coaching search has not been clearly defined.
Standfest will therefore manage GAK on Friday against the Innviertler. Assistant coach Florian Hart is no longer with the team. The 36-year-old, who had been in office since July 2025, requested the termination of his contract, as reported by "Krone".
The candidates to succeed Feldhofer
Regarding the succession of Ferdinand Feldhofer, there are reportedly several possible candidates. The "Kurier" and "Krone" named Manfred Schmid.
Gerald Scheiblehner is also said to have been approached, according to "Krone". The 49-year-old previously worked with Tino Wawra. WSG coach Philipp Semlic is also reportedly a topic, and a transfer fee would probably be due for him.
However, the trail to Ronny Brunmayr is reportedly cold. The GAK legend, assistant coach at Crystal Palace until June 2026, is indeed interested in the head coach position and would find the role at GAK appealing. However, there has reportedly been no contact from the Graz-based club until Tuesday evening.
