RC Lens, featuring Austrian legionnaire Samson Baidoo, suffered their second defeat on the third matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage. "Les Sang et Or" had to concede a 0:3 loss at Club Brugge.

The French Cup winners started strongly, with Thorgan Hazard forcing Yann Sommer into a save after a free-kick, and Ivanovic only hitting the post (14').

However, the goal came at the other end, as Hans Vanaken pounced on a set piece for the lead shortly before the halftime whistle (45'+3).

Baidoo Substituted at Halftime

After the recently recovered Samson Baidoo remained in the dressing room at halftime, "Blauw-Zwart" extended their lead to 2:0 shortly after the break. Following a splendid attack down the right wing, Joaquin Seys waited in the penalty area, initially failing to beat Robin Risser but then bundling the ball over the line on the rebound (50').

While Lens squandered one chance after another, Brugge proved far more efficient in front of goal, with Carlos Borges sealing the deal after a counter-attack (72').

Gishamer in Action During Aston Villa Victory

Meanwhile, Aston Villa defeated Viking Stanvinger 3:1.

In Birmingham, the hosts dominated from the start, with Ross Barkley deservedly putting the Premier League club ahead in the 23rd minute with a header after a corner from Ibrahim Mbaye.

In the 36th minute, Tripic also slipped slightly in his own penalty area and brought Alysson down. Austrian referee Sebastian Gishammer initially let play continue, but after a VAR review, the Austrian official pointed to the spot. Emiliano Buendia coolly converted the resulting penalty.

Only in the second half did the visitors offer more, but an own goal from Henrik Heggheim after a "Villans" counter-attack (62') sealed Aston Villa's third win in three matches.

Peter Christiansen's goal for 1:3 was merely cosmetic (84').

"Nerazzurri" Win While Shorthanded

Inter struggled against hitherto unbeaten Shakhtar Donetsk but still won 1:0.

Clear-cut chances were scarce for a long time. Around 20 minutes before the end, the "Nerazzurri" also weakened themselves after Alessandro Bastoni was shown a second yellow card (68').

Nevertheless, Inter took the lead: Carlos Augusto was on hand after a counter-attack and an assist from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, scoring the winning goal for the Milanese (77'), who celebrated their first victory.

In parallel, Real Betis also won 1:0 against Feyenoord.

The Andalusians had a clear advantage in chances, but it took a penalty to put "Los Verderones" on the winning track after Jeremiah St. Juste handled the ball in the penalty area. Isco made no mistake and scored for 1:0 after about an hour (59').

The Dutch then created good chances, but the equalizer eluded "De Trots van Zuid".
