After Schlager's Departure: Salzburg Names New Number 1
FC Red Bull Salzburg will also rely on a talent in the goalkeeper position in the future. An experienced goalkeeper is expected to join as number 2.
FC Red Bull Salzburg has settled on a new number 1.
After the position became vacant due to Alexander Schlager's departure, the club's management quickly clarified the situation: Christian Zawieschitzky will go into the season as the new number one.
"I'm not nervous about the new role. I'm simply happy that this trust is being placed in me," Zawieschitzky says.
New Number 1 with Old Number
Despite his new role, the 19-year-old Tyrolean will continue to wear the number 52. "With 52, I can write my very own story," explains Salzburg's new first-choice goalkeeper, justifying his decision against the prestigious number.
However, Salzburg's goalkeeper team currently lacks the necessary experience – Nikola Sarcevic, currently the first-choice backup, is only 19 years old, just like Zawieschitzky.
"Someone will definitely be added to the goalkeeper team. It has to be someone who fully accepts this role as number 2 and optimally supports Chris, but who also possesses the necessary quality to play at any time, should the situation arise," announces Sporting Director Marcus Mann.
