Official: Austria talent joins Benfica Lisbon
The 16-year-old academy player had a choice of several clubs. The Portuguese record champion won the race.
Austria Vienna is losing a great talent.
The 16-year-old Alan Lembakoali is leaving the Violets' academy and moving to the youth ranks of Portuguese record champion Benfica Lisbon.
The French-born Slovak was crowned top scorer in the past season of the ÖFB Youth League U16 with 19 goals, and last September, the striker made his debut for the Slovak U16 national team.
Lembakoali also played for Austria's U18 team and in the UEFA Youth League. In 2024, the youth international arrived at Verteilerkreis from Slovan Bratislava.
"Move underscores excellent work"
"Several clubs showed great interest in signing Alan Lembakoali. Of course, we would have liked to keep a player with his potential with us for longer," says Sporting Director Tomas Zorn.
"However, when a top club like Benfica Lisbon offers a young player an attractive sporting perspective, it is understandable that he wants to take this step."
Zorn: "His move once again underlines the excellent work being done in our academy and in youth scouting."
