On Sunday, in front of a sold-out home crowd, LASK missed the chance to jump to the top of the table against SK Rapid.

In the eighth round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, they suffered a 0-2 defeat against the new league leaders. The third-placed team is now five points behind the Hütteldorfer.

It is LASK's first home defeat against Rapid since the reconstruction of the Raiffeisen Arena.

Too many simple turnovers

"We didn't bring onto the pitch what we had planned. We had too many simple turnovers," Alessandro Schöpf already offered a first explanation for the defeat in front of the home fans in the mixed zone after the match.

The Tyrolean admits that the Viennese deserved the win. "We need to be more confident in our own possession," knows the experienced midfielder.

Too little energy in the first half

Coach Didi Kühbauer was particularly unhappy with the first half, which ended 0-0.

"We didn't bring the energy we needed. We weren't fast enough in many actions," says the successful coach of the Linz side.

"Bei so einem Spiel muss man mehr bringen, damit man gewinnt."

Didi Kühbauer

In the second half, the Linz players were closer to their opponents. Kühbauer then spoke of an open game.

It was precisely during the short period when George Bello was sidelined injured that Ercan Kara put Rapid ahead (58'). In the 82nd minute, substitute Claudy Mbuyi sealed the victory.

Insufficient performance levels

"In a game like this, you have to deliver more to win," knows Didi Kühbauer.

Schöpf further notes: "Currently, we have too many players who are not reaching their peak performance or their intensity levels."

Now Liverpool awaits

With a bit of luck, a point might have been possible. However, Kühbauer also knows: "We were far from a win today."

The intensity continues, with four "English weeks" ahead. The demanding phase continues with the home match on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool.

LASK wants to do more than just participate. However, Kühbauer also knows: "Liverpool plays far above Rapid."

In the next four weeks, there will be two matches each week. The injuries to George Bello and Moses Usor against Rapid come at an inopportune time. Here's how the two are doing >>>
