Confirmed! Maurits Kjaergaard joins CL participant
After seven years, the Danish midfielder is leaving Salzburg. He arrives as a replacement for the club's record departure.
FC Red Bull Salzburg has allowed Maurits Kjaergaard to move to Ligue 1.
The 23-year-old Dane is joining OSC Lille. At the third-placed team in the past Ligue 1 season, he is planned as a replacement for Ayyoub Bouaddi. With his new club, he will participate in the UEFA Champions League.
The Dane has been under contract with the "Bullen" since 2019, and after strong performances at FC Liefering, he quickly established himself as a regular in the first team. Recently, however, he has only played a minor role. In total, he made 136 competitive appearances for FC Red Bull Salzburg, contributing 19 goals and 33 assists.
Kjaergaard: "Closing a great chapter"
Marcus Mann, Sporting Director: "Mau has played with us in Salzburg for seven years now and has worked his way up from a talented youth player to an exceptional professional. We are all the more pleased for him that his wish to move to a European top league has come true. We will certainly follow his further journey and wish him all the best at his new club!"
Maurits Kjaergaard: "When I came here so many years ago, I was almost still a little boy. Now I leave as a mature man and player. At FC Red Bull Salzburg, I not only received my sporting education but was also able to develop as a person, for which I am very grateful to everyone here at the club. Today I am closing a great chapter in my life and setting out to open a new one."
