Ex-ÖFB Talent Hamzic nominated for Bosnia for the first time
The 19-year-old only announced his change of national allegiance a few days ago. Now comes the first call-up.
Salko Hamzic is in the squad of the Bosnian national team for the first time.
The 19-year-old WSG Tirol goalkeeper was nominated by head coach Sergej Barbarez for the upcoming international break.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will face Poland, Romania, and Sweden in Nations League B, Group 4.
First training camp after change of national allegiance
It only became official last Friday that Hamzic would be available to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future. The Austrian-Bosnian dual citizen had announced this step after discussions with the Bosnian Football Association.
Now, the goalkeeper is heading to his first training camp with the new national team. Hamzic played a total of twelve international matches for Austria's U18 and U19 selections. Most recently, he was still active for the red-white-red U19 team.
Chance for a debut?
Whether Hamzic will also get an immediate chance for an international debut remains to be seen.
The goalkeeping talent is likely planned as the third-choice keeper, behind established number one Nikola Vasilj and Martin Zlomislic.
The first squad after the World Cup also includes Ermin Mahmic, another player with an ÖFB past. Salzburg's goalscorer Haris Tabakovic was also called up.
